To power the 24-basin hydroponics setup, you'll need to deal with a power draw of 4580 W during the day and 1680 W at night. If your Hydroponics Basins ever lose power, the plants inside of them will start to rapidly die. Sun Lamps consume 2,900 W during the day, and while the power draw of the basins themselves is less, they absolutely need to stay powered. Powering any hydroponics layout is a tall task. Making 24 and one Sun Lamp will cost you 2,440 Steel and 24 Components, and that's not including the cost of the power components that you'll need to run this setup. It's not cheap to build this many Hydroponics Basins. If powered properly, you can feed your entire colony off just hydroponics alone. On top of that, it can be scaled up as much as you want simply build a new Sun Lamp and repeat the layout around it as well. This layout lets you make the most of your space and your power. They can climb over obstacles like that and still plant, harvest, and haul just fine. Don't worry about your colonists reaching the basins in the center of the layout. If you place them just right, you should be able to fit 24 basins within the radius of a single Sun Lamp. That's why it's critical to pack as many Hydroponics Basins around a single Sun Lamp as possible. However, Sun Lamps consume an unreal amount of power, so you'll want to use as few as possible. If you want to use your Hydroponics Basins indoors, you'll need to have a Sun Lamp nearby to grow crops in them. However, you'll have to make sure you're using these powerful farming tools as efficiently as possible. Not only do they grow much faster, but they can keep crops protected from the cold of winter. Unless you've installed some handy mods, Hydroponics Basins are the best way to farm crops in the late-game.
